Read More We said goodbye to our little home in the Inner Sunset and headed out for Portland. A quick stop to take in the San Francisco Skyline and remember the many moments and memories we created here over the last 7 years. My favorite...meeting my amazing partner in crime! The road to Portland was 10 hours of cows, sheep and rolling hills. Armed with a stack of magazines and a snuggly blanket we chatted our way through the many pastures. Nearing the Oregon boarder I looked up and hurriedly fumbled around for my phone so I could snap a picture of these "Colorfully Chic" trucks, there must have been 30 of them! What a fun surprise after miles of monotonous scenery. After stopping for lunch, gas and a milkshake break we made it to Portland just in time for dinner. We stayed at the cutest Airbnb with a wonderful hostess! Their separate backyard structure was transformed into a relaxing oasis with a comfortable bed and a shower with amazing water pressure! Exactly what we needed after a long day on the road. First things first on Tuesday morning was a trip to VooDoo Doughnuts. I love the classics and chose an excellent chocolate glazed raised doughnut while my more adventurous other half had the "Dirty Bastard", a chocolate glazed raised doughnut with Oreo crumble and peanut butter drizzle. After breakfast we headed to The Pittock Mansion, the property was built in 1914 by one of Oregon's most influential families. A beautiful home with an incredible view of Portland, you can tell that the owner of this home was well respected by the state of the art details in every room. The ceiling in this small round room that leads to the backyard is just one of those incredible details. This is a must see if in the Portland area, if you happen to be in town on the last Saturday of the month check out the Behind the Scenes Tour where you will get to see the basement and the upper servants quarters. Before getting back on the road we stop for lunch at Bunk Sandwiches. The meatball parmigiano hero and the pork belly cubano were amazing! Definitely the best sandwiches in Portland! With a recommendation from the guy behind the counter we head to Salt & Straw for a sweet ice cream treat. This busy shop is located in an old theater where an ice cream shop was a front to a local speakeasy. To honor the history Salt & Straw have used vintage film reel shipping crates to cover the bathroom walls. Take a moment to see when and where some of these crates where shipped from! As we cross the bridge we are welcomed into Washington! For the next 2 weeks we will be with family in Seattle! Don't forget to follow along on Instagram (#romanwithjaxanddeano) and come back next Saturday for more of our adventures!
